    Default The Sapphire Claw development

    Hey Steve.
We're all waiting for The Sapphire Claw...
I have a bunch of questions.
First, how are you funding it's developemnt ? through revenues from other games like Mr. Smoozles Goes Nutso, and the comics series?

What made you stop development in it and switch focus to other games ?

I'm using WME myself for my game and an active member of the WME community, and I would like to hear your thoughts about developing with it. In my opinion it's a great engine.
Who's coding the game for you ? Yourself or another programmer ?

Have Mr. Smoozles Goes Nutso been commercially successful ?

In any case good luck with the games and the comics. They are wonderful.

    Oded

    My, you're inquisitive.

The Sapphire Claw is not going to be cheap to make, so funding it really needs to come from a publisher. So far this has not materialised, but I live in hope.

I was hoping that Mr. Smoozles Goes Nutso would be a stepping stone towards self-funding, long term. However, in spite of the great critical acclaim it's not been the commercial success I'd hoped for. Although I created it as an arcade game with plenty of adventure elements that I was sure adventure players would enjoy, this has clearly not proved to be the case. the most valuable thing I've taken from this was the fact that mixing genres is a suicidal approach.

I didn't stop development of Sapphire Claw as such. It was always my intention to develop a working prototype and create a series of design and proposal documents. Once this was in place it was a case of showing it around and getting on with other things. So far I haven't been able to return to SC in a meaningful way.

I love WME. It's such a cool environment in which to work that you can put the basics of a game together very quickly. The tools are such that I don't need a programmer for Sapphire Claw (I don't really class the scripting as coding).

I am looking at doing a project that will mean I work with a talented programmer with tons of experience. It's going to be a PnC adventure but with some exciting gameplay enhancements. But no action.

    Thanks for your kind compliments.
