Al Emmo

Himalaya Studios is a new development team that is formed by the founding members of AGDInteractive (previously known as Tierra), meaning that they are the very same people that brought to us the award winning King’s Quest 1 and 2 remakes. But as most of you probably already know, game development is a very time-consuming task and one cannot go on doing it forever on a professional level, if it is not possible to make a living out of it. Thus Himalaya Studios decided to create commercial adventure games with similar quality to the King’s Quest remakes. And our first impression is indeed...

Little Big Adventure 3

Posted by admin | 24 views | Comments (0)

With all the excitement regarding LBA3 recently, people still do not know so much about the actual story or events that will take place in this long awaited title. I decided to write an article using the little bits of information given to the LBA community over the years to try and give a brief idea of what LBA3 will be all about. Story: LBA3, from what I gather, is actually the main LBA. I will explain… Both LBA1 and LBA2 revolved around the evil tyrant Dr. FunFrock trying to steal the Stellar Entity’s power, which resides in the center of the planet Twinsun and is guarded by the goddesses...

Pathologic

Posted by admin | 25 views | Comments (0)

We first saw Pathologic at the Games Convention 2005 this summer. The title won our attention from the very first moment that the staff of Buka Entertainment showed it to us. We had the chance to play a beta version of the game, with voices in Russian but all subtitles in English. Recently the UK-based GMX Media announced that they will publish the English version of Pathologic in March 2006. Read on to see why this should come as good news to fans of adventure games. Story: In the very beginning of the game you are faced with a choice. You have to choose a character out of the three available...

Hero6

Posted by admin | 22 views | Comments (0)

It was only this month, that I discovered that I was on the Hero6 team. I was very surprised, but in a happy way. As now I am apart of one of the biggest fangame groups on the net. One day I dreamt of going to Hero6.com and logging onto the members section, not always having to be a “visitor.” Yet now I see the beauty of what is going on. Now I see the work, I am now backstage. Upon downloading the Alpha demo, my views of Hero6 completely changed. Instead of your average thought of Hero6, “It’s taken so long, why haven’t they released anything yet?” Well I’ve...

Martin Mystere

Posted by admin | 20 views | Comments (0)

We received a playable preview version of Martin Mystere by GMX Media about a week ago. Completing the demo took about 10 minutes, so it is difficult to form a well-established opinion about the game. I have to say however that the first impressions are not very flattering for Martin Mystere. Unfortunately it is very unlikely that Martin Mystere will be a candidate for any Best Adventure 2005 awards. On the other hand, it might be worthwhile to take a look at if the story of the final version is compelling enough and if the gameplay is entertaining. Alas, the odds of that happening are not very...

Ankh

Posted by admin | 26 views | Comments (0)

Egypt has been quite a usual theme in adventure games. We often got to visit the ancient land of Egypt in 1st person adventures trying to solve ancient mysteries. Deck 13 from Germany however are following a different approach with their 3D adventure Ankh. Ankh is a 3rd person comedy adventure with stunning 3D graphics and a strong focus on characters and story telling. We were fortunate enough to play a very ealy build of Ankh and let me tell you, I personally have not been so excited about an upcoming adventure game since the announcement of A Vampyre Story. The game takes place in Ancient Cairo....

Rise of the Hidden Sun

Posted by admin | 26 views | Comments (0)

‘Rise of the Hidden Sun: A Rattlesnake Jake Dawson Adventure’ by Chapter 11 Studios has been one of the most anticipated indie titles for the adventure community. It is a comedy-adventure set in the Wild West in the 1860s. The story is very much inspired by the Indiana Jones movies and adventure games, as some of you might have already understood by looking at the screenshots. The game is divided into four separate (but very connected) episodes, each of which will be published separately. The developers opted for the episodic approach so that they could publish the game in stages instead of...

Indiana Jones and the Fountain of Youth

Posted by admin | 28 views | Comments (0)

In the movie world the name Indiana Jones has been directly connected to the term ‘adventure’. In the 80s, Lucasarts (known as Lucasfilms back then) decided to turn the 3rd part of the movie, called Indiana Jones and the Last crusade, in a computer game. The adventure genre seemed as a very viable option for Lucasarts, due to the ability to conduct dialogues and to bring out Indy’s inventive character through inventory-based challenges. Of course some fist-fights here and there would have to be added to keep the spirit of the movie intact. The critique that the game received was...

The Whispered World

Posted by admin | 29 views | Comments (0)

The Whispered World is a project developed by a graphic designer student in Germany called Marco Hüllen. Now how could a project made by one man alone be worthy of our attention? Independent Adventure Development history has tought us that it is actually very possible. The Whispered World tells the story of a boy named Sadwick. He roams the country with his family in a circus wagon and earns his living as a clown. One night he has a dream and a blue spirit tells him that he has to embark on a great journey to enlightenment in order to find the sense of life. Since his life as a clown is not a...
