TES 01: First Day In Sweden

Posted by admin | 31 views | Comments (0)

Pan Metron Ariston was founded at the beginning of the year 2006, having only one goal in mind: to create a Point & Click adventure game that is a bit different from the ones that have been published before regarding the story, but also trying to preserve the Lucasarts / Sierra style and atmosphere. The team was hoping that their game will revive those time-forsaken feelings that we once had by playing classic Point and Click adventure games. Story: So you play the role of Emilio Carboni, an exchange student from Florence, Italy. Emilio decides to travel to Sweden, under the guise of studying,...

Himalaya Studios is a new development team that is formed by the founding members of AGDInteractive (previously known as Tierra), meaning that they are the very same people that brought to us the award winning King’s Quest 1 and 2 remakes. But as most of you probably already know, game development is a very time-consuming task and one cannot go on doing it forever on a professional level, if it is not possible to make a living out of it. Thus Himalaya Studios decided to create commercial adventure games with similar quality to the King’s Quest remakes. And our first impression is indeed...

Little Big Adventure 1

Posted by admin | 25 views | Comments (0)

The original Little Big Adventure/Relentless was launched in 1994 for PC, hitting the market with more than 400 000 copies sold worldwide and a record ‘penetration rate’ of 12% for PC CD-ROMS (12% of computer owners with a CD-ROM drive bought Little Big Adventure within the first two months after its release). The game was created by Adeline Software International and released in Europe by Electronic Arts and in the USA by Activision. Atmosphere: Why is LBA such a good game? For the fans, the most important factor is probably the unique atmosphere. The combination of the idyllic environments,...

Little Big Adventure 3

Posted by admin | 24 views | Comments (0)

With all the excitement regarding LBA3 recently, people still do not know so much about the actual story or events that will take place in this long awaited title. I decided to write an article using the little bits of information given to the LBA community over the years to try and give a brief idea of what LBA3 will be all about. Story: LBA3, from what I gather, is actually the main LBA. I will explain… Both LBA1 and LBA2 revolved around the evil tyrant Dr. FunFrock trying to steal the Stellar Entity’s power, which resides in the center of the planet Twinsun and is guarded by the goddesses...

Alone in the Dark

Posted by admin | 26 views | Comments (0)

Long before the Resident Evil Era emerged – a game that define the standards to which the survival horror genre would be measured - there was a title that is now long forgotten yet it is a timeless titan that started it all: Alone in the Dark. Directed by Frédéric Raynal (creator of the LBA series), the game is a great tribute to Lovecraft’s horror stories. With a spellbinding atmosphere and an eerie mood, Alone in the Dark had sent a tingling sensation down the spine of many players. Story: The owner of Derceto, Jeremy Hartwood, died a few days ago. The police report, files after a cursory...

Little Big Adventure 2

Posted by admin | 27 views | Comments (0)

The sequel to the epic Little Big Adventure had been long waited for. Adeline wanted to create something new with LBA2 as they did with LBA1, while maintaining the feeling and sense of adventure of LBA1. After a year and a half in production, LBA2 was finally released late in the summer of 1997. Story: LBA2 takes place a couple of years after the defeat of the tyrant Dr. Funfrock in LBA1. The planet has adjusted to life without FunFrock in power, and everything is peaceful. You start off on a quest to find the weatherman, as bad weather is preventing you from travelling. But as you find him, and...

Ankh

During the 80s and the 90s Lucasarts and Sierra produced numerous adventure games. Many of them are still considered as the best examples that the adventure genre has to show. Humor was always an integral part of those games. The genre faced difficult times with the change of management in Sierra and the change of focus from adventure games to Star Wars spin offs in Lucasarts. We have recently seen a resurgence with titles like Syberia, The Black Mirror, Still Life etc. However those titles are somewhat different to what we had been used to in the 80s and the 90s. The humor was not there anymore,...

Pathologic

Posted by admin | 25 views | Comments (0)

We first saw Pathologic at the Games Convention 2005 this summer. The title won our attention from the very first moment that the staff of Buka Entertainment showed it to us. We had the chance to play a beta version of the game, with voices in Russian but all subtitles in English. Recently the UK-based GMX Media announced that they will publish the English version of Pathologic in March 2006. Read on to see why this should come as good news to fans of adventure games. Story: In the very beginning of the game you are faced with a choice. You have to choose a character out of the three available...

Stargate

Posted by admin | 31 views | Comments (0)

The AGS community just can’t stop producing more and more shiny little gaming gems for the adventure genre. Sektor 13, a Slovenian developer, used the AGS engine to give an interactive dimension to the Stargate universe. Stargate was a sci-fi movie released in 1994 that later on also became a TV series, called Stargate SG1. Now there is also an (unofficial) adventure game that takes place in the Stargate universe. Story: Anubis is not dead as the humans thought before, and he will not rest until he possesses four magic crystals that will grant him immense power enough to rule over the universe....
