1. Installing Diablo III

In order to install Diablo III, players are recommended to use either the Diablo III DVD or to
download and run the Diablo III Online Installer available at this address:
https://eu.battle.net/account/management/download/

Note for Beta testers:

Please make sure you remove the beta client before installing, the beta client may interfere with
being able to install the full game client and may lead to unpredictable effects. Please make sure you
remove the Battle.net folder, which can be found in the following locations:

[WINDOWS XP]

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Battle.net

[WINDOWS VISTA/7]

C:\ProgramData\Battle.net

[MAC]

/Users/Shared/Battle.net

Once this folder is removed, simply run the installer again.

Note: The aforementioned Windows folder are hidden by default, please make sure that you enable Show Hidden Files and Folders through the Control Panel

2. Preparing for Installation and Patching

When patching or installing Diablo III, there are several steps that we recommend players take in
order to make the installation and patching process is as smooth and easy as possible.

Windows Vista and Windows 7 users are recommended to ensure that the installation
and the game itself runs with full administrator privileges in order to tackle issues that may prevent
the game from completing certain operations.

These permission issues are usually due to the User Account Control (UAC) feature which
is designed to limit the rights or running applications. Simply put, applications run with standard
user privileges by default, preventing said applications from writing files to specific paths such as
C:\Program Files\ or C:\Windows\. As such, if a program is installed in C:\Program
Files\, Windows will deny the program any writing attempts unless the program has specific
administrator privileges.

This is the reason why users running the game on Windows Vista / 7 are recommended to launch
Diablo III with elevated administrator privileges by right-clicking the game icon or the installer
and selecting Run as Administrator.

This can also be set permanently for an individual program, by following these steps

- Right-click the game icon on the Desktop and choose Properties

- Click the Compatibility tab and enable Run this program as an administrator

- Click OK

Additional information regarding User Account Control can be found here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Account_Control

Security Software such as anti-virus programs and Firewalls can interfere with installation
/ patching, as such please make sure that your security software is correctly configured to allow
Diablo III full access both to the internet, and to alter game files.

If you experience any issues configuring your security software, please consult your security
software manufacturer’s website for further assistance.

3. Configuring the Launcher

The Diablo III Launcher relies on Internet Explorer and the Adobe Flash plug-in.

First, please make sure your Internet Explorer installation is up to date by either running the
Windows Update utility or downloading the latest version from here:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/products/ie/home

Connection Settings

Please bear in mind that incorrectly configured Internet Explorer settings can prevent the Launcher
from connecting to the internet. Please work through the following steps to ensure that Internet
Explorer is not connecting through a Proxy and that it is not in Offline Mode:

- Launch Internet Explorer and click Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings

- Disable any Proxy connection/server

- Disable Automatically Detect Settings and click OK

- Click File and ensure Work Offline is not enabled

Compatibility Mode

Please make sure that the game is not set to run in Compatibility mode:

- Right-click the game icon on the Desktop and choose Properties

- Click the Compatibility tab

- Disable the ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ option

4. Downloading the game / patch

If your Blizzard Downloader is experiencing issues such as slow download speeds, problems with
connecting to the tracker or simply crashing, please ensure that you have the following ports open:

TCP 1119 and 6881-6999

Additionally, please check our guide on how to properly configure Blizzard Downloader which can be
found here:
http://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/473

Please also check this following guide regarding configuring security software (such as Firewalls) to fully allow the Blizzard Downloader full access to the internet:

5. Installing / Patching errors

If Diablo III or a patch has finished downloading and you continue to experience errors, please try
working through the following steps.

Please make sure that you are running the game with full administrator rights.

On Windows 7 and Vista you can check that the game has administrator privileges, by
right clicking on the shortcut to the game / installer program and choosing Properties. Then choose
the Compatibility tab, and finally choose Run this Program as an Administrator.

OK this screen, and then try the install / game again.

You can also try rebooting Windows into Safe Mode with Networking to prevent security
software from interfering with the installation / patching process. If so, please ensure your computer
is connecting through an Ethernet adapter, then work through the following article in order to
restart in Safe Mode with Networking:
http://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/300618

If you are using a Mac you can find instructions how to boot into safe mode here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455

If you receive an error during patching, try resetting or changing the password for your account, and then try the game again.

You can do this via the Account Management page:
https://eu.battle.net/account/management/

If the install freezes or hangs , please try the following steps:

Windows

1. Stop the installation process if it’s still running.

2. Wait for at least one minute. Ensure that Agent.exe no longer appears in the Processes tab
of your Task Manager.

3. Restart the installation.

If that does not resolve the issue, delete the Battle.net folder, which can be found here:

[WINDOWS XP]

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Battle.net

[WINDOWS VISTA/7]

C:\ProgramData\Battle.net

Mac

1. Stop the installation process if it’s still running.

2. Wait at least one minute. Ensure that Agent no longer appears in your Activity Monitor.

3. Restart the installation.

If that does not resolve the issue, delete the /Users/Shared/Battle.net folder and try the
installation again. The launcher will automatically rebuild this folder.

6. Regions and Patching

Our patches are sent out at different times for different regions. The time your client will update is determined by the region of the installer you used.

If your client has patched ahead of other regions, you will be unable to play on unpatched regions until they have been fully updated and the client may continually attempt to patch. A workaround for this is to uninstall the game, then download and install the version of Diablo III which matches the region you wish to play on.

You can see more details regarding this on our support site, here:
